Mark your calendars: Tuck Fest 2019 is coming to the U.S. National Whitewater Center April 25-28 — and it looks like it’s going to be pretty epic. Around 60,000 people are expected to attend.
This four-day event will feature live music, 34 athletic events and competitions and 100 beer taps — plus the usual trails, ziplining, yoga, canopy tours and rafting.
“We have a great lineup this year on the music side,” Whitewater Center Strategic Director Jesse Hyde told the Agenda, “but I think one of the most compelling pieces is a single registration to try every competition that is taking place all weekend.”
This will be the 6th annual Tuck Fest. It keeps getting bigger and better each year.
“It’s cool because you can spend an entire day there doing activities, watching competitions, and not see a second of music and still have a blast — or you can only watch music and see great musicians all day and night,” said Agenda music writer and Tuck Fest lover Danny Gassaway. “And the deep water solo competition is awesome. Music-wise, Tyler Childers is the biggest name. He’s blown up in the last few years.”
What it is: It’s a huge outdoor party for people who love the outdoors. But if you want the official language, here’s the way that the Whitewater Center describes it: “Tuck Fest is an opportunity to celebrate the outdoor lifestyle with competitions, demos, activities and live music. We welcome Spring time at Tuck Fest. We connect to the outdoors with Tuck Fest. And we build community through Tuck Fest.”
Cost: Free to attend; $50 for terrace tickets; $40 for adults and $30 for kids to compete (unlimited events) if you pre-register; $45 day-of registration; and $6 parking. You can get tickets here.
Terrace Access: For $50 you’ll get private viewing areas and a chef-prepared meal, and you get access to a private cash beer.
Events: Three obstacle races; five stand-up paddle board races; seven mountain bike races; one swim race; two climbing competitions; eight trail running races; two raft races; six kayak races; and 18 yoga practices.
Music: There will be about 15 total live music performances — the Whitewater Center estimates about 19 hours of live music throughout the weekend. Grammy winner Fantastic Negrito headlines on Thursday; J Roddy Walston & The Business headlines on Friday; Tyler Childers headlines on Saturday; and The Milk Carton Kids headline on Sunday.
Pro tips from the USNWC: Carpool or take a LYFT because they expect parking to fill up really quickly each day (it gets brutal), and get there early if you can. Pre-registration isn’t required, but they definitely recommend, and you might not get a T-shirt. The event is family and dog friendly, and you don’t have to participate in any of the events to come hangout.
