Poppy’s Bagels has officially opened the doors of its new, second location in South End.
Poppy’s took the space formerly occupied by Noodles & Co next to Five Guys. The exact address is 2201 South Blvd (plenty of parking in the back).
Hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
We posted the news to the Agenda Instagram handle and it generated over 4,000 likes and 100,000 views — so it’s safe to say the South End neighborhood is pumped.
Poppy’s Bagels South End is just a few hundred yards from Owen’s Bagels, so commence neighborhood bagel battle.
Poppy’s Bagels fast facts:

- Each day, Poppy’s original location produces around 1,500 to 2,000 fresh bagels.
- Most popular bagels are plain and everything.
- Opened in 2010 and is a family business owned by Ronnie Rippner. Ronnie moved to Charlotte from New York (Long Island) and created the shop because he missed high-quality bagels.
- Grandchildren call Leslie “Poppy” – thus the name.
- All Poppy’s bagels are made from scratch, boiled and baked. Ronnie gave me a tour of the kitchen and the bagel process is much more intense than I thought.
- Poppy’s also whips their own cream cheeses.
- While a third location isn’t imminent, Ronnie told the Agenda that he’s got his eye on NoDa and Ballantyne.
