Cat yoga is a thing now and it’s cuter than you could ever imagine

Let me first admit – I’m a total cat person.

You can roll your eyes all you want or lecture me about why dogs are superior beings but you’ll never convince me that my cat, Olive, isn’t an angel among us.

Just look at her.

When I heard about Mac Tabby Cat Cafe’s cat yoga, I was all in.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Mac Tabby Cat Cafe, it’s a magical place where you can go hang out in a room full of cats. You can even enjoy a glass of kombucha or cup of coffee while you visit.

The best part is that the cats are all adoptable through a rescue called Catering to Cats and Dogs. Since they opened, they’ve found forever homes for 99 cats.

Every Monday night, they offer cat yoga classes for $20.

For the price, you get the one hour yoga class + 30 minutes of hang time with the cats. They also occasionally offer kids cat yoga for $15 on select days. To say I was excited for my first cat yoga experience is a understatement.

I showed up with my mat and water bottle in hand.

I could barely contain myself the second I saw the Mac Tabby sign.

For the most part, it’s just like going to a regular yoga studio.

EXCEPT THERE ARE CUTE, FLUFFY CATS EVERYWHERE.

The yoga teacher, Nicole, told me each class at Mac Tabby is different. You never know what to expect.

There were about 12 cats the night I went, each with unique personalities.

Some of them were really chill.

Some of them were more curious.

Some of the cats like to get in on the yoga action.

It’s not out of the ordinary to move through a vinyasa and find a cat on your mat.

There was one cat, named Von, who was very interested in all of our poses.

He even sat on Nicole’s leg at one point to help lead the class.

As someone who regularly attends yoga classes, I wasn’t sure how the addition of cats would affect the overall experience. Normally, yoga helps me relax and center my mind.

Surprisingly, even with a cat darting through my downward dog, it didn’t take away from my usual yoga calm.

At the end of our flow, we ended with a harmonious ‘Om’ and even the sleepiest cats started to stir.

The absolute best part of the class was sticking around afterwards to get in some quality playtime and cat cuddles. Along with yoga, there’s something super calming about spending time in a room full of cats.

Overall, I’d rate my cat yoga experience a 10/10.

It was a really refreshing way to mix up my regular yoga practice and add in a little animal therapy. Plus, it’s the perfect activity to do after a long Monday at work.
