Wise Acres organic farm is open for the fall season with pumpkins and pizza

The USDA organic strawberry farm switches gears in the fall with pumpkins, mums, apple cider slushies, hayrides and its signature Wise Pie pizzas.

This is a family-friendly destination with plenty of entertainment for the kids.

They’ve got a corn pit, swings, hayrides and farm animals, and the corn maze is expected to be up and running in a week or so.

Parking is free and they accept cards for purchases.

Stop by the red barn for snacks and a refreshing frozen apple cider slushie — you know, because it’s too hot for flannel but you wore it anyway.

The slushie is made with fresh pressed cider from Apple Hill orchard in Morganton. It’s so good.

If you happen to be visiting when there’s finally a chill in the air, the adorable Wise & Shine organic coffee and tea trailer is the place to be.

You can stock up on fall flair to spruce up you front porch for the season.

Pumpkins are $0.69/pound and they’ve got Pinterest-y white ones, classic orange ones and even decorative gourds. Locally grown mums are $6 (small) to $15 ( large).

But the most important part of any trip to Wise Acres is a stop at Wise Pie, their rustic outdoor pizza kitchen.

Pizzas are priced $10-$14 and they’re cooked outside in a wood-fired oven. It’s a popular offering so prepare for a line and a possible sell out.

The homemade dough is made with flour from Severson Farms and the cheese is sourced from Uno Alla Volta. Gluten-free dough and vegan cheese are available.

It’s not a gimmick either. This is some of my favorite pizza in the region and it’s made outside on a farm. It’s about as pure, simple and perfect as pizza can get.

Wise Acres’ fall season runs through November 4.

It’s closed Monday – Wednesday for school trips. Catch it Thursday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Pizza is only available Friday – Sunday.)
