Resident Culture, a 14,000-square-foot, 15-barrel system brewery on Central Avenue, found its footing quickly when it opened in Plaza Midwood last August.

In addition to being the quickest to begin canning in the city – seven cans in five months – it became well-known for its hoppy lineup, which includes IPAs, pale ales and lagers, alongside barrel-aged wild beers made with yeast from the neighborhood’s flowers and tree bark.
“Our first year has been a complete blur, but in the best way possible,” founder Philip McLamb said. “We could not be more thankful and appreciative of all the love and support we have received from the Charlotte craft beer community, and especially from all the amazing people who call Plaza Midwood home – we wouldn’t be here without you.”
This month, the brewery turns one, and they’re going all out to celebrate, with two different parties in one weekend and an expected turnout of 2,000 people.

RC Turns One Music & Beer Fest, a two-day music festival with special bottle and can releases, tap takeovers and plenty of on-site food trucks, will begin Saturday.
Several musicians will take the stage over the span of Saturday and Sunday, including Empire Strikes Bass, DJ Aswell and Ancient Cities. See the full lineup here.
Entry is $10 at the door at includes all of the events spread throughout the taproom, beer garden and parking lot. So far, 760 people are interested in the event on Facebook and 2,000 are expected to attend, according to the brewery. The first 200 to show up will receive a free koozie.
“[The party] is not only a celebration of our first year being in the books, but also a celebration of all the wonderful people who have come to enjoy Resident Culture,” McLamb said.
Admission does not include entry to Canniversary, a more expensive celebration packed with beer and swag.
Canniversary, a can festival loaded with beer tastings, take-home cases and swag, begins Saturday afternoon as well.
Over 20 breweries from across the country will be offering unlimited samples of their best beer from 1-4 p.m. The lineup includes Heist Brewery, Fonta Flora Brewery, Triple C Brewing Co., Trophy Brewing Co. and Cellarmaker Brewing Company.
General admission includes a 3-hour unlimited tasting session with a commemorative glass and a limited edition koozie for $85.
VIP passes are also available for $225, which includes early entry, a 16-ounce vacuum-insulated cooler, cooler bag, enamel pin, tasting glass and a free case of an assorted variety of cans from the attending breweries.
