Construction has begun on a new fast-casual Italian restaurant on East Morehead called Capishe.
City records show that Bruce Willette, the founder of Salsarita’s, a popular “fresh-Mex” chain based in Charlotte, is putting close to $500,000 worth of renovations and additions into the 4,800-square-foot space, located near Joe and Nosh and The Packhouse.
Once complete, it will include a bar, dining room and wood-burning pizza ovens.

The restaurant is new, but the concept isn’t, having been dreamed up in 2009 and almost launching in the summer of 2014, before being put on hold indefinitely when Willette began working with Amélie’s. He served as a managing member until late 2016.
It was reported before its 2014 target open date that Capiche would mimic the setup of Salsarita’s with fresh Italian food, including pizzas, sandwiches and flatbreads, made in front of customers.
At the time of publication, Willette was not immediately available for comment.
