The Queen & Glass, sister cocktail bar to The People’s Market, opens today at 5 p.m. on East Boulevard.
It’s not a speakeasy, but you won’t see any blatant signage out front. Just look for the crown emblems near the breezeway under the stairs behind The People’s Market and you’re there.

It’s a small space with seating to accommodate no more than about 50 people.
I only counted about 30 seats and would go for one of the 10 spots at the bar or a high-top along the back wall.
Artwork features queens of all ethnicities and backgrounds, including a drag queen.

Renowned bartender Bob Peters created the bar menu, which features dangerously drinkable cocktails priced $10-$15.
Peters announced he was leaving The Ritz-Carlton’s Punch Room back in May to pursue a consulting career helping restaurants set up cocktail programs.
There are seven signature originals (named after royalty) and seven classic drinks like a mint julep and an Old Fashioned.

The drinks were straightforward and approachable — elegantly designed and meticulously prepared but without over-the-top frills and stuffiness that comes with some craft cocktails. (They still lit an orange rind on fire though.)

Chef Deacon Ovall created a complementary selection of shareable spreads and pate, salads, flatbreads and tapas to pair with the drinks.
The food was fantastic and included several vegetarian and vegan options. The fried tofu was the best I’ve ever had (and I eat a lot of tofu).
