Superica, an Atlanta-based Tex-Mex restaurant with locations in Buckhead and Krog Street Market, will open in Charlotte next week.
It’s located in South End in a sprawling 7,000-square-foot space at the Design Center and is part of a larger wave of change coming to that block, including Barcelona Wine Bar and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. Basically I live there now.

The space is gorgeous with an entrance in Nebel Alley and a courtyard patio.
There are three main seating areas — the bar, the main dining room and the outdoor patio.

The menu is stacked with classic Tex-Mex cuisine — from fresh ceviche to cheesy enchiladas.
They don’t want to call it elevated, and while I realize they’re aiming for unpretentious approachability, there’s no other way to say it — Superica’s food is refined. It’s still casual Southwestern comfort food, but it’s on another level.
