Kre8 Gastropub now serving up Instagram-worthy Bosshog Mac & Cheese egg rolls inside new Wooden Robot space

Kre8 Gastropub, an Instagram-worthy restaurant that shares space with Wooden Robot, is now open in South End.

I visited Kre8 Gastropub on Sunday for lunch. It’s already attracting solid crowds. With huge garage door windows, the interior is simple, bright and casual.

Hours are 4 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 3 p.m. – 11 p.m. on Friday; noon – 11 p.m. on Saturday, noon – 8:30 p.m. on Sunday; closed Monday.

Space can also be booked for private parties.
Simple patio area that’ll be popular once the weather turns warmer.

The mastermind behind the food is chef Rob Masone. The concept was birthed from Twisted Eats, the food truck that was previously parked outside Wooden Robot.

Honestly, I didn’t expect the food to be so delicious. Kre8 Gastropub is a huge win for Wooden Robot and South End in general.

Additionally, the food is beautifully plated — a smart, strategic move to provide perfect material for the Instagram and Snapchat users. Call me crazy, but it’s hard to not take a photo of Kre8 Gastropub’s food.

One thing I didn’t realize is that you can actually sit anywhere within Wooden Robot.

There is a hostess station at the main Wooden Robot entrance where you can grab a menu and/or order and get a number for your table.

Originally, I thought you could only get service in the new Kre8 space.

My favorite from Wooden Robot beer: What He’s Having IPA

Popular dishes include their beer cheese ($11), chicken sandwich ($12), Bosshog Mac & Cheese Eggrolls ($12) and the Southern-fried tacos ($11).

Like a crazy person, I sat at the bar and ordered way too much food. After tasting each dish I creepily offered the rest to other guests — which of course weirded people out. Here’s a list of must orders depending on who you are.

Must order for the group: He’s Having a Beer Cheese ($11) – Wooden Robot rotating IPA, salt-crusted pretzels, flatbread crackers and a pale ale mustard.

Must order for the Instagrammer: Bosshog Mac & Cheese egg roll ($12) – beer boiled macaroni, gruyere, smoked, bacon jam, stilton and parmesan cream with a liquid cilantro drizzle. Come with your choice of side: hand slammed fries, blistered snow peas or cold cucumber salad.

Must order for the rich: Baked Gnocchi ($21) – lobster and cognac bisque, seared tiger shrimp, rosemary and scallion breadcrumbs, fried kale and arugula oil.

Must order for the normal meal: Chicken Sammie ($12) – pan seared chicken, bacon jam, kale and sunflower pesto, avocado, arugula and ranch. Comes with your choice of side.

Beer cheese ($11)
Bucket O’ Wings ($12) – dry rubbed and crispy smoked cayenne pepper hot sauce, veggies, house ranch or blue cheese with fries
Cauliflower Nugs ($9) – tempura fried, cayenne pepper hot sauce, burnt bourbon mango BBQ, kale and sunflower seed pesto
Bosshog mac & cheese eggroll with fries ($12)
Southern Fried Tacos ($11) – fried green tomato, pink peppercorn aioli, bacon jam, smoked pimento cheese
Chicken sandwich ($12)

Order a pint of Wooden Robot’s What He’s Having, start with the Kre8 Gastropub’s beer cheese and then crush some Bosshog Mac & Cheese egg rolls — you won’t be disappointed.
