Waxhaw’s first downtown apartment community — called Mill on Main — recently opened inside a rehabbed historic cotton mill.
It’s made up of 63 units, a mix of lofts and flats. Their style is heavily influenced by the mill and preserves many of the original materials.
The mill, formally known as the Rodman-Heath Cotton Mill, was built in 1898 and was the town’s largest employer until it shut down in 1946.
People started moving in on September 15 and there are still units to lease, General Manager Sara Teller said (she lives on site, by the way).
In the coming weeks, a restaurant and office tenant will move into two commercial spaces on the property.
And the rest of Waxhaw’s beautifully quaint downtown.
