When I tell people I grew up camping, I conveniently omit the fact that said excursions took place in my grandparents’ motorhome… with air conditioning… and satellite TV.
I’ve done my fair share of real outdoor camping in adulthood — on the beach in the Bahamas, at an island yoga retreat and in a hammock in rural Nicaragua — but I can’t say accommodations void of electricity and toilets are ever my top choice.
For indoorsy types like myself, there’s glamping, a style of “glamourous camping” that tricks reluctant campers into sort of sleeping outside by offering up swanky accommodations.
In most cases, we’re talking about a tent on steroids with beds, electricity and toilets. Here are 10 unique glamping options near Charlotte.

Fairy tale treehouse cottage
Location: Asheville
Price: from $135/night
