Throwing myself into the black hole that is Bumble in order to better understand what 20- and 30-somethings in Charlotte value in a dating profile was exhausting work, but someone had to do it (for research purposes only, of course).
Based on what the majority of those I ran into on the app included in their profile, these are the 10 things that make one complete and swipe right-worthy in Charlotte.
A dog
Extra points if the dog is yours and you’ve included the term “Dog Dad” or “Dog Mom” in your bio, along with things like what you like to do with said dog and the type of person your dog needs in its life.

A group picture
Is this is in order to, A) Show that you have friends, B) Show that you’re friends with some good looking people or C) Show that you’re that much better looking than your friends? The world may never know.

A picture in which you’re holding a glass of alcohol
If you don’t enjoy brewery hopping with your dog during the day, aren’t a member of a brewery run or yoga club or consider drinks a good first date, do you even have a social life? Make sure to drive this point home by including a drink emoji.

… and that you’d love to find someone new to get drinks and/or try that trendy new restaurant with
You’re cool, you’re hip and you have your finger on the pulse of this city. And you’re going to prove it.

Your height
Because apparently, even though it’s 2017, this still matters.
That you like adventure
The further across the globe you’ve been, the better.

…and the pictures to prove it
It’s not enough to just say that you’ve scaled Everest or gone diving in the Virgin Islands or ridden elephants in Asia. If you don’t have pictures that show your adventurous side, do you even have one?

…and if that’s not enough, your Instagram handle
Not only can your profile not handle the amount of adventure you have, but it definitely can’t cover everything about you in one fell swoop, either. Only 6 pictures? Please.

A bio
Seriously, are you such an enigma that you’re going to make me swipe right to learn anything about you?
I’m always doing field research on my fellow twenty-somethings. Want to talk about Bumble and Tinder profiles (or literally anything else) with me? Say hi.
