We got a first look at Discovery Place’s new “record-breaking” exhibit. It was weird, in a good way

You’ve probably heard of Robert Ripley and his legendary collection of “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” books. And chances are, if your kid has been to a Scholastic Book Fair at their elementary school, they’ve heard of him too.

The exhibit features Ripley’s odd artifacts and scientific discoveries and explains the science behind them.

It answers your question, “How in the world is that possible?”

The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not opens this Saturday, but the Agenda got a sneak peak.

Here’s what you can expect.

Crawl through a life-size model of the prehistoric snake Titanoboa.

Measure up against Robert Wadlow, the world’s tallest man.

Sit inside the world’s smallest car.

See a calf with two faces, a camel made of toys, and a portrait of Einstein made of toast.

But you don’t just walk around and look at cool stuff. The exhibit is educational, too (don’t tell your kids).

It explains how crazy things like skull elongations are possible…

…the reasoning behind certain cultural traditions…

…and the history of Robert Ripley himself.

The exhibit is also highly interactive. There are experiments, challenges, touchable specimens, computer interactive and multimedia experiences. AKA lots of things touch.

Yes, your kids will be impressed, but the exhibit also makes for a great date night.

Four-legged chickens and microscopic unicorns? Goodbye awkward silence, hello endless conversation starters.

Additionally, Discovery Place Science is launching “The Most Unbelievable Summer Ever” with a series of superlatives all summer long.

The tallest man and woman in the Carolinas will get a lifetime membership to Discovery Place Science.

The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! opens Saturday, May 27 and runs through Monday, September 4.
