Ah, the Charlotte social scene. Breweries, bars, and booze.
In a city filled with festivals, “pop-ups” and celebrations centered around alcohol, sometimes sober activities get overlooked.
I mean, shoot — Charlotteans have even figured out how to incorporate drinking beer and yoga!

I’m 20 — which is so close, yet so far. And if you’re like me, you get tired of hearing about all the local events that sound fun but involve drinking.
You’re too old for ImaginOn and Ray’s Splash Planet, but too young to hang with the Charlotte nightlife.
So, here are 10 things to do this summer if you’re underage…
Nom so hard at Food Truck Friday
Who knew food cooked from a noisy truck could taste so good? Food Truck Friday is a hot spot for a variety of good, cheap eats in a relaxed environment. And yup — you guessed it, it’s on Fridays. Grab a bite from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. It used to be located at Tryon and Camden, but now it’s in the open lot at Sycamore Brewing. The vibe at FTF is chill, making it a great spot for a first date. Or a place to look for one.

See a Charlotte Knights game
When it’s already 6 p.m. and you and your friends STILL haven’t figured out your evening plans, this is the answer. Coming from someone who doesn’t know much about baseball, the games are a good time — trust me. The ballpark has an amazing view of the city, and who doesn’t love a good hotdog? Tickets start at $13 and their schedule runs through August 27.

Cheer on your local soccer team at a Charlotte Independence game
If baseball just doesn’t do it for you, try the Independence. If you saw them play at Ramblewood Stadium last year, you’re in for an even better experience this summer. Starting June 17, the team will play at the Matthews Sportsplex. Check out the new digs here. Individual tickets aren’t on sale yet, but we know they’ll start at $15 plus $5 for parking. The official 2017 schedule hasn’t been announced, but follow their information page and Twitter for updates.

And don’t forget the Charlotte Hounds
If you’re into guys hitting each other with sticks, this is your jam. No, but really — these guys are tough. Whether you’re an avid lacrosse fan or a lax newbie, the Hounds are entertaining. Check out their schedule and buy your ticket. They play at Memorial Stadium, near Uptown.

Go to the U.S. National Whitewater Center
I’m talkin’ to you, outdoorsy people. The Whitewater Center has just about every adventurous activity you can think of. Buy an activity pass here. Not into that? Spread out a blanket, throw on some sunscreen, and catch some rays while you watch everyone else participate in the activities. (Peep the new Aqua Rock Deep Water Solo Competitions starting May 28). After a long day, stay for their summer concert series, River Jam. It runs now through September on Thursdays and Saturdays, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Post up at Freedom Park
Pack a picnic, hang an Eno in a tree, or get your steps in by walking on the greenway. If you get bored, snag a bike for $8 from the B-cycle share station across from the amphitheater and ride around Charlotte.

Try Exit Strategy
Test your problem-solving skills by attempting to escape one of Exit Strategy’s 18 themed rooms in 60 minutes. Pick one of their two locations and book a room for $25. You need between two and 10 people to play, so bring your squad. P.S. If you really want a challenge, try one of their “18 and over” rooms.

Get your thrill at Carowinds
A classic go-to for a fun day trip. I don’t care if you’re 2 or 22, this amusement park has something for everybody. Grab a group of friends and go. Buy your pass here. Think Carowinds is only for “kids”? Ride the “world’s tallest and fastest giga coaster,” Fury 325, then we can talk. Oh, and they also revamped their waterpark, now called Carolina Harbor, which opened May 20.

Chill at Romare Bearden Park
Located right next to the BB&T Ballpark, Romare Bearden Park is a quaint, yet happenin’ hangout spot. Walk around, pop a squat in the grass, and admire the view of the city. This summer, enjoy two different music series — for free. Now until August on Tuesdays and Fridays (noon to 1:30 p.m.), enjoy mellow background music from solo artists or small combos while you eat your lunch. And on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., enjoy more of an Uptown sound at “Party in the Park.” Party band, tribute band, jazz, rock, country, and beach music lovers rejoice. Check their website for deets.

Here’s to all the millennials under 21. We may not be old enough to drink, but we still know how to have fun. Cheers.
