After a year popping up to pour beer at events around Charlotte, Petty Thieves Brewing Co. is closing in on a permanent home.
Petty Thieves is the brainchild of Ted Rosenau, who has spent the past three years planning a brewery concept and the last year serving his brews at Goodyear Arts events and other shindigs. He’s brewing the beer in his brother-in-law’s shed.
He’s now close to signing a lease on a permanent brewery location between Plaza Midwood and NoDa with the idea of becoming a neighborhood brewery and taproom.
The Petty Thieves name comes from the idea that the American brewing tradition is borrowed from other cultures, and Rosenau brews everything from German, Czech, Belgian and English style beer.

And their style is more experimental: Rosenau hopes to brew about 50 different varieties and swap things in and out. This past weekend, he served a blueberry and oat ale with Enderly Coffee infused in it.
The taproom should be a little “softer” and “more natural” in style than the traditional industrial warehouse look, though it will still be in an adapted old building.
Look for Petty Thieves to be open by the end of the year.
