Indian Trail is getting its first brewery next week

When Sweet Union Brewing Company opens next week, it will close a significant gap in the Charlotte-area beer scene.
It will mark the first brewery in Indian Trail, a town just over the border in Union County and the site of a lot of new housing developments.
That’s part of what attracted Tim O’Neill and head brewer Travis Caudle to this location. They’re both from Marshville, a more rural town. But they found a good location and a business opportunity closer in to the city.
“In 10 to 15 years, it’s going to be packed in with people and disposable income,” O’Neill said. And
But more than that, these guys are passionate about their craft. Sweet Union wants to be the neighborhood brewery.

They will gradually determine their flagship beer.

O’Neill and Caudle say they want to keep a steady rotation of new brews through the taproom. Over time, their customers will determine what they put in heavier rotation.
They’ll also serve two wines and a cider. There are electric lines ready for food trucks, and Sweet Union expects to have one outside every day it’s open.

Nearly everything inside is handmade.
That includes the bar, the tap handles and the metalwork made from railroad ties along the bottom.
Even the sign outside was hand-crafted.

Opening date is next Saturday, April 29.
They’ll likely be pouring an oat pale ale, session IPA, traditional IPA, dark mild, rye mild, chamomile wit and an imperial porter.
Regular days of operation will be Wednesday through Sunday.
