This startup has replaced the office gofer and Charlotte restaurants love it

When lunchtime rolls around, we’ve wandered our floor’s cubicles collecting the myriad orders each of our coworkers gets from a favorite restaurant. You collect wadded $5 bills and scribble notes on a post-it.

A relatively new startup out of Minneapolis — Foodsby — has recreated this digitally and is now serving Charlotte.

Here’s how it works: Somebody registers their company with the site and recruits a critical mass of coworkers to join. Restaurants will then give you a list of specific days and times they’ll deliver. Then you all put in your orders on Foodsby.com.

There’s no minimum order, and you’ll pay up to a $1.99 flat fee. The restaurant you ordered from will then bring all the food at once to your office.

National chains like Wich Which, Qdoba, Jamba Juice, Subway and Chili’s are on board. There are also some local spots on the platform, including Sandwich Max.

Charlotte restaurants are loving it.

Max Nicholson, owner of Sandwich Max in Elizabeth, said he’s been on the platform for a week now and it’s already delivered significant business.

He’s brought orders to office parks at Clanton and I-77, down Billy Graham Parkway near the airport and off West Tyvola.

“This is 100 percent new business,” he said.

Foodsby takes a 7.5 percent cut from the order, which is less than other online platforms, he said.
