This new apartment project in Optimist Park is a step in the right direction

Well, another project has been approved and it’s actually pretty solid.

Currently named 25th & Brevard Apartments (I imagine this name will change) this project is located at that intersection and right along two fantastic new transportation options: the light rail extension and the Little Sugar Creek Greenway extension.

The project is 261 units and is from Wood Partners with design from Axiom Architecture.

The design definitely has a unique flair to it and is certainly different than the garbage we have seen before. Each side of the building seems to have a different design aesthetic which will help break up the project.

The project will also improve 25th, 24th and Brevard streets with some major pedestrian scale improvements that will help the 25th Street Station connect to North Davidson (vital for the station’s value).

The building has some flex space at 25th and Brevard that will hopefully be used for retail, once the area and market will support it.

There also seems to be a fantastic public space right along the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. This will have a huge impact on the greenway and add more “human scale” space along the greenway. The plans don’t outline what will go here other than some major public art pieces, more on this as we learn more.

Construction should begin soon now that plans are approved. This area greatly needs improvement, especially right along this stop and this project is a step in the right direction.
