About a year after opening in a prime location on Morehead Street, Meat and Fish Counter is expanding and changing its business model.
Currently, the shop sells specialty meats and deli sandwiches/sides to go. There are a few wooden stools to sit while you wait for your order. The company also has a wholesale division that sells high-end beef, fish, pork, game and exotic meats.
Company president Michael LaVecchia told the Agenda that the concept would be expanded into a full-service restaurant in January 2017.
The ownership team is looking for a business partner to run the restaurant.
According to listings on business broker sites, the Meat and Fish Counter retail side is looking for a $150,000 investment for an undisclosed amount of equity. They want an operating partner to run the sit-down restaurant business.
The retail space has 2,500 square feet, with another 2,000 square feet of area to expand into.
The owners report having invested $300,000 so far in the retail build-out and another $150,000 on equipment. Their lease runs through 2021 and costs $25/square foot. That’s below market rate, they say, but it isn’t cheap.
Converting to a full-service restaurant presumably will lead to higher average tickets and expand the customer base. People are already used to that area at night — it’s right next to Dilworth Neighborhood Grille.
