Crisp, the popular salad restaurant, closed its Elizabeth location yesterday.
Crisp owners Jerry and Kerin McCarthy have recently invested in their Dilworth and Uptown Latta Arcade locations – so this Elizabeth closing is not representative of Crisp success. Also, if you’ve ever seen the Latta Arcade Crisp lines, you know they’re doing well.

The decision to close their Elizabeth location was hard on Jerry and Kerin. “It was weird sweeping out the restaurant for the final time. We hope to be back in the Elizabeth neighborhood at some point because the neighborhood has been so good to us,” Jerry told me over the phone. “All the construction going on in Elizabeth makes that location really hard. Driving down 7th is hard and so is parking.”
It’s simple – Crisp in Elizabeth closed because surrounding construction negatively impacted sales and ownership wants to focus on more successful Uptown and Dilworth locations.
Sales from Crisp’s Dilworth location were up 25% yesterday and Jerry was excited to see that many customers stayed with the brand and made the drive to Dilworth.

In addition to focusing on Crisp’s Uptown and Dilworth locations – Jerry and Kerin McCarthy are launching a new smoothie and market bar concept named Uptown Cool in Latta Arcade (the old Crisp spot) in January.
Yes, Uptown Cool will have Acai bowls.
