Because I grew up on Publix subs and had my teenage years filled with Jersey-style subs and hoagies, I pride myself on having a high standard for sandwiches. That’s why Sub One Hoagie House and its unassuming exterior, though it shouldn’t have, surprised me so much.
You’ll find it at 516 North Graham Street (just down the street from Alexander Michael’s) and when it comes to keeping tradition, appearance and prices almost the same for over 20 years, it’s essentially the Price’s Chicken Coop of sandwich joints. It doesn’t look like much, because it has nothing to prove.
Salads are also available (all under $4.79), but you don’t come for the salads – you come for the sandwiches, and there’s not a single foot-long hoagie on the menu that’s more than $4.69. Take a look at the menu:
It was printed this way, I promise.
I went with the classic Spicy Italian with everything but onions on it and couldn’t believe I’d only paid $4.58 after taxes for it. I mean…
This place is the real deal, and Facebook backs it up, with 4.8 stars and reviews that say things like “Being from Jersey, this place is the real deal. Trust!” and “Over 22 years of eating at the establishment and I’ll always return!”
Sub One Hoagie House is open Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Get there.
