Meet the 43 fast-growing Charlotte companies on the Inc. 5000

The annual compilation ranks private companies by percentage of revenue growth over a three-year period (with 2015 the latest revenue year). This year, 43 Charlotte area companies made the cut.

A few things to keep in mind

This is a great list to start with, but remember that since Inc. requires companies to disclose specific revenue numbers, not all businesses want to participate. (That whole pesky competition thing.) Another great resource is the Charlotte Business Journal’s annual Fast 50, which also ranks companies by percentage of revenue growth but doesn’t publish actual revenue figures.

Remember that smaller private companies have an easier time posting eye-popping numbers as well. To qualify, companies had to post a minimum $2 million in revenue for 2015.

It’s pretty darn impressive that big Charlotte companies with hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue like XOOM Energy, Movement Mortgage and AmWINS Group are represented. Who said insurance is boring?

Here’s a look at the top five Charlotte companies on the list

(1) PLANIT GROUP: The information technology services company ranked 12th overall, with $11.5 million in revenue and 11,525% three-year growth rate. Principle headquarters are on Rea Road, but they also have business operations in Boca Raton, Florida.

(2) Torrent Consulting: With $2.9 million in revenue, the consulting firm — providing advice on management, sales, marketing and technology — saw a 2,196% growth rate to rank 164th.

(3) Tresata: This is one of the darling Charlotte tech companies of the moment, providing predictive analytics about customer behaviors. Impressive 1,551% growth rate on $5.5 million of revenue to rank 256th.

(4) Strategic Management Decisions: This Huntersville company provides cloud-based surveys as well as consulting, to help companies keep their workforces engaged and productive. It reported 664% growth on $2.9 million of revenue, ranking 583rd on the list.

(5) Spangler Restoration: This Indian Trail company (with several locations around the state) fixes fire, mold, water, storm and other damage for residential, commercial, industrial and institutional clients. Growth rate of 496% on $9.2 million of revenue to rank 800th.
