Urban MVMNT bringing a spin studio, coffee bar and more to South End

It’s located next door to Red Clay Ciderworks and across the street from what I’m told could be the future home of a non-local, regional brewery.

Brauer is no stranger to the Charlotte fitness scene. He’s the owner of South End CrossFit and Charlotte’s Best Boot Camp, two successful businesses that will both move into and anchor Urban MVMNT this fall.

Two additional tenants are currently on board to set up shop at Urban MVMNT.

Joining South End CrossFit and Charlotte’s Best Boot Camp will be Ride or Die Spin Studio and South End Grind coffee bar.

Ride or Die, a high energy, Soul Cycle-style stationary bike class, will be run by Bauer’s wife Zoe. South End Grind will serve local Pure Intentions Coffee under the direction of Freddie Nordhoff.

Creating an affordable space where first-time entrepreneurs like Nordhoff can get a business off the ground is important to Brauer. “I want to get young, organic, homegrown blood in here,” he said.

To help connect the space with the neighboring community, Brauer is building out what he calls an “urban playground” in what is now the parking lot.

It’ll have monkey bars, pull-up bars and other workout equipment as well as public art and communal gathering spaces. Brauer plans to teach free fitness classes here for underprivileged youth in the area.

Brauer expects about 4 months of construction to get the building cleaned up.

The coffee bar lounge will dominate the entrance on the main level. They’ll also be adding a second floor for offices and physical therapy rooms. The target open date is Fall 2016.
