I waited in line to hear Hillary Clinton and Obama speak. Here’s what it was like

Hillary Clinton and President Obama spoke at the Charlotte Convention Center yesterday afternoon for their first joint campaign rally.
I wanted to see history happen. I wanted to take part in the experience. Charlotteans were definitely excited.
These were the craziest lines that I’d ever seen. Imagine Disney World on opening day with only one open attraction.

Yeah, that’s right. The line went from the front of the convention center, looping down the block all the way to the end of the rail trail.

And let’s not forget the Charlotte heat. Supporters were literally dropping like flies. I saw five people get taken away on gurneys.

But the heat didn’t deter the Clinton-Obama supporters. People were amped, and the T-shirt game was on point.

After four hours of waiting, I was sweaty, sunburnt and tired. More than ever, I was ready to see Obama and Hillary speak. We made it through the doors (and more importantly into the A.C.).

But not so fast. As the clock ticked to 3 p.m., we rushed through security so that we wouldn’t miss any of the speakers — or so we thought.
Unbeknownst to us, the other speakers had started speaking long ago (way before the 3 p.m. start time), and probably when we were still standing five blocks away.
Next we were herded, confused, into “Ballroom B” where we were told by volunteers (who could barely look us in the eyes) that the main event was at capacity.
Our only option was to watch what was left of the speeches on a screen.

My first thought: Are they serious? And I wasn’t the only one.
As more and more people entered the ballroom, I heard many say “this is a scam,” and some people just left, saying that if they wanted to watch on a screen they would have stayed home.

But once Hillary starting speaking, the crowd was energized. Clapping, chanting, rallying for a cause and a candidate that they believed in. And I guess, that’s what I came for after all.
While I’m not sure if I would ever wait in line for a rally again, I’m still with her. Or, like these women, I’m just not with Trump.
