Add a new stop to your South Boulevard must-eat list.
Crispy Banh Mi, a casual quick-service Vietnamese sandwich shop, opened three weeks ago in a small strip center next to Pep Boys Auto. It’s on your right heading south away from the city and is an easy spot to miss. Just know that if you cross Seneca Place, you’ve gone too far.

Crispy joins other veteran restaurants in adding culinary weight to the far South Boulevard corridor beyond the already buzzed about South End neighborhood.
Head a little further south, South Enders. It’s a gold mind down there, I promise. Mad Greek, Jasmine Grill, Vietnam Grill, Burrito Factory and now Crispy Banh Mi (just to name a few) are all located within a mile of each other between Woodlawn and Archdale and are all worth a visit.

Sandwiches are the main event at Crispy Banh Mi and they’ve got a budget-friendly price tag of $4 – $5 each.
They’ve got 14 sub fillings to choose from, including pork, chicken, sardines, fried egg and a house-made vegetarian meat substitute made with rice flour. All are topped with traditional banh mi garnishes of cilantro, carrot, cucumber, daikon and jalapeno.
Sides and appetizers include wings, spring rolls, fries and fried tofu.

Equally exciting, though, is the expansive drink and dessert menu featuring unique coffees, smoothies, slushies, frappes, fruity green teas and milk teas.
I got the lychee tea that comes with chia seeds and chunks of mango. For dessert, I went with the cashier’s recommendation of the fruit delight, a cold creamy mix of coconut, lychee, longan, jackfruit, ruby pearls, pandan and white jello cut with coconut milk and topped with shaved ice.
So weird. So good.

Crispy Banh Mi is new but it’s already buzzing.
So get there before it really gets slammed.
I arrived at an odd in-between meal time (2:45 p.m.) and was met with a line about six people deep. Service was quick, super friendly and incredibly patient with all my questions.
