If you’re a power user of the Dowd Y, you know there’s not a ton of privacy in the men’s locker room.
The locker and shower area is pretty much open floor plan.
The Y is now putting in two changing stalls in the men’s locker room.
Women have already had some private changing facilities, and the YMCA says men have been requesting more privacy. The project will be completed by the end of the month.
This is not a response to HB2, YMCA leaders say.
The renovation project has been in the works for more than a year, I’m told. And while by outward appearances it seems related, it is not, spokeswoman Molly Thompson said.
Will similar changes come to other branches? Unclear at this point.
“We are always reviewing ways to improve our members’ experience,” Thompson said. “Locker room use and privacy would be part of that, but plans for execution of any locker room changes vary branch to branch.”
