Good news for Charlotte wine enthusiasts: Petit Philippe is growing and will open an additional wine storage concept about 30 yards from their current Myers Park store on Selwyn.

Put down the Franzia and Yellowtail – it’s time to get serious.
The new concept, La Cave, will open in about a month in the space formerly occupied by New World Olive Oil on Selwyn.

Petit Philippe Owner Mark Meissner described the concept to me as a “wine concierge storage.” He went on to say, “It’ll basically be a wine club for wine enthusiasts… High touch.”

Mark didn’t provide the Agenda a tour, but he flipped through photos on his phone and I can vouch that the facility is state-of-the-art. Mark is also obsessed with the customer experience.
Whatever customers need, Petit Philippe plans to provide – discounts on purchases, wine preparation, digital services, etc. You get it, it’ll be a Ritz-Carlton-like experience.
With Petit Philippe’s tasting room about 30 yards down Selwyn, you can see a scenario where a customer calls and says, “Can you bring my XYZ bottle out? A friend and I are coming to the tasting room.” Synergy. Oh yeah.

Petit Philippe’s La Cave will have fancy climate-controlled cellars (lockers) for rent, ranging from 8 to 32 cases.
No pricing has been unveiled, but the services and space will vary based on the different type of customers. Mark does want to provide options for new and aspiring wine enthusiasts.
About 30% of the space is already spoken for just from word of mouth. If you’re interested in space, the best way to get pricing and learn more is to email Owner Mark Meissner directly (good guy) – [email protected].
Wine lovers will be obsessed with this offering, and there is no doubt that the Ritz-Carlton, high-touch service will differentiate La Cave. Additionally, I love the strategic business move from Petit Philippe – it’s a perfect complement to their current concept and the economics of wine storage are just silly fun.
If any of you need help tasting your wines, just let the Agenda know. We’re always here to help.
