Live Nation has taken over a bar at the Music Factory to create a new venue

Live Nation has signed a lease to take over the old “Bootleggers” space right next to the Fillmore. After two failed attempts at a country bar, this 11,500-square foot-space will be transformed into the Fillmore Underground.
With the loss of Tremont Music Hall (12,000 square feet) and The Chop Shop, Charlotte is losing what’s known as “mid-size” venues. Think Amos Southend and less the Fillmore (Fillmore is 20,000 square feet and considered a larger venue).

Turning this space into a concert/event venue is great for the city and the fact that Live Nation is heading it up says a lot about the music scene here in Charlotte. The fact that the world’s largest concert promoter is taking the charge on this means they see value in the market and the value of them having a mid-sized venue to book events.
It’s very possible that we have not gotten certain events because there wasn’t a venue for it, and Live Nation wants to remedy this. This is a very important project for the growth of the Music Factory as well as the expansion of the music scene here in Charlotte.
The Fillmore is my favorite venue in the city and while this new space will likely be corporate (even with the “underground” moniker) and probably not have the “character” Tremont had, the quality will definitely be off the charts and I am absolutely OK with that.

To be included in this project is a patio measuring around 1,000 square feet. It seems that Live Nation is looking to complement The Fillmore and build off the brand name. Live Nation doesn’t have any “Fillmore Underground” venues in their arsenal so it’s cool to see them trying it here in Charlotte. It seems they will be using it for those mid-size venue events that I personally love.
