I found a bring-your-own-beer spot (and some great pho)

And thanks to you all, I found my place.

Several Agenda readers informed me that Vietnam Grille on South Boulevard allows guests to bring their own beer (wine, too). So, my fave date and I created a classy mixed six-pack at the Teeter and drove right over.

The restaurant is completely unassuming, and if you don’t know already about it, you probably wouldn’t think to go (I tend to feel that way fairly often while driving down South). I hear it’s a great place for takeout, which probably explains why it was empty minus one other couple.

Anyway, we walked in and grabbed a table. As the waitress came to say hello, I quickly gestured to the beer, mumbling, “This is okay, right?” And luckily, she confirmed, saving me a whole lot of embarrassment.

The rest of the experience ran just as smoothly, from the friendly, fast service to the quality of the meal. We started with nem nướng cuốn (grilled meatball rolls), and I played it safe with phở tái (flank steak with rice noodles in beef broth.) All delicious.

In conclusion: Bringing your own beer is kind of fun. Don’t ask me why. Just try it yourself.
