The new “NoDa Plaza” will have lots of retail spots

Here is a refresher on the basics of the project:

• Connects to Yards at NoDa
• New 35th Street connection
• 345 apartment units
• Approximately 7,500 square feet of retail in apartment building
• Potential for 10,000+ more square feet of retail in an adjacent commercial building (Phase 2)
• 13,175 square feet of public urban open space dubbed NoDa Plaza

One of the highlights is the connectivity (connecting Yards and 35) will allow NoDa to continue to be walkable as well as provide excellent accessibility from Davidson.

Also to note is just how much retail they are looking to bring in. Mike Lucier and his team at CBRE are handling the retail and they (and Crescent) want to bring in an eclectic mix of retail. Whether it’s bars, restaurants, soft goods or anything else, they want to ensure it’s not one chain after another. 

They are also trying to find the right tenants for Phase 2 as that will provide street retail for 36 Street and retail for the interior facing “NoDa Plaza.” I would love to see a social house type project take up the majority of the space but a boutique grocer will work as well.

Crescent is building connectivity to 36 Street station which wouldn’t exist without this project. CATS/LYNX has the exist from the station on the north side of Davidson which will require light rail riders to walk up the hill to Davidson then cross the street if they want to go down to Cabo Fish taco (for example). Crescent is making it so that you can also exit the station through their plaza, explore their retail and directly connect to Davidson through 35 or on the southern side of 36.

I am excited to see what retail they bring in because of the genuine desire for creative, unique and eclectic retail CBRE and Crescent are searching for. More on this as tenants are signed…
