Let’s say it’s the end of March and you have yet to max out your Q1 chocolate quota. Yeah, you just polished off that bag of Cadbury eggs last night (I see you) but there’s still gas in your chocolate-eating tank. For you, my spirit animal, there’s Sweet Escapes, an annual chocolate-coated charity fundraiser for CommunityLink.
Let’s cut to the chase. How much chocolate do I get to eat?
There will be more than 500 pounds of chocolate at the event delivered in the form of chocolate cakes, chocolate truffles, chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate cupcakes and over-the-top edible chocolate art. You can eat to your heart’s desire.

Yeah, but is this good chocolate or like Hershey’s chocolate?
Bite your tongue. This is good chocolate from local heavy hitters like Secret Chocolatier, Chocolates by Lorada, Southern Cake Queen, Dessert Fetish and Potts Chocolate. The primary caterer and chocolate partner for the evening is CPCC’s Bakery & Pastry Arts Club and they’re known for pulling out all the stops on some seriously impressive edible creations.
“In past years they have created a chocolate river, a wall of chocolate with a chocolate sangria fountain, a chocolate Machu Piccu and a chocolate Arc de Triomphe,” said Jessica Otto, CommunityLink’s Director of Development and Marketing. “I’m not sure yet what decorative chocolate they have planned for this year, but it’s always something amazing.”

I can eat 500 pounds of chocolate at home by myself. What else do I get to do at Sweet Escapes?
Good point. But if you pass on Sweet Escapes, you’ll miss out on all the savory hors d’oeuvres (courtesy of CPCC students), beer and wine, live music, silent auction and human interaction. There’s kind of a social stigma against bingeing on chocolate all alone in your apartment but if you get dressed up and do it for charity it’s totally ok.
Plus, your ticket helps fund vital programs that help veterans and people who are homeless achieve housing stability.

Sold. Eating chocolate for charity is a win-win. What does CommunityLink do?
CommunityLink helps individuals and families secure safe, decent and affordable housing in 25 counties throughout North Carolina. Last year, they housed more than 2,000 people who are homeless, including 330 veterans and 670 children.
