A developer is planning to buy nearly half of 112 S. Tryon and turn it into a boutique hotel.
They’re under contract for eight full floors of Tryon Plaza, according to information presented at a meeting with owners in the building. They’re planning to get 4, 5, 9, 10, 16 and then the top three floors — 18, 19 and 20.
The developer described it as a Hotel Indigo but this is not guaranteed.
This building is right on Trade on Tryon (southwest corner). Can’t see how this will do anything but boost property values in this building.

The fourth floor would become the lobby and main amenity level.

Note the bar and terrace.
And here’s what a typical hotel floor would look like.
If you don’t know Hotel Indigo, they’re one of the most trendy brands in the country.
The boutique hotel brand like to set up shop in unique older buildings (Tryon Plaza is on the historic places list) and are only in selected markets. Think Lower East Side and Alexanderplatz in Berlin.

Only Asheville and Research Triangle Park have one in North Carolina.
In Georgia, Atlanta has a few (the very first Hotel Indigo is in a historic building across the street from the Fox Theatre) and Athens and Savannah also have them.
Each hotel features an on-site bar and restaurant that highlights local flavors and seasonal ingredients.
