The Goodyear House will be a neighborhood beer garden in a 116-year-old house

The Goodyear House is going to be a small-plate restaurant and neighborhood craft beer garden built in a 116-year-old house near NoDa’s center.

“House” is really the right word for it. There’s actually somebody living in there now.

Ideal use of this old house. It preserves the history of NoDa as a mill village and fits with the vibe of the neighborhood. The “Goodyear” name comes from the Depression era, when farmers would use the extra money earned during “good years” to add on to their home.

Pretty extensive work is going to be done both on the interior and exterior.

But Klenk does want to preserve a lot of the natural hardwoods and other historical features.

They’ve planted bamboo around the edge of the backyard to give it more of a closed-in feel.

“I want to make you feel like you’re in somebody’s backyard,” Klenk said.

It might be a while before it opens, though.

He wants to launch in the springtime, and it’s definitely not going to be this year. He wants to find an operating partner before going into 10 months of construction. Might even be 2018.
