Zablong is now open in Latta Arcade and I’m pretty pleased to add a new stop to my lunch rotation.

For $9.29 you get a sizable 12-inch (8-piece) oblong personal pizza with unlimited toppings. It’s a lot of food.
You can start with one of their 9 signature pies and add or remove toppings to your liking. Or build your own from the crust up with a base of traditional, multigrain or gluten-free crust, 9 different sauces and spreads, 39 vegetable and meat toppings and 3 kinds of cheese.
Yes, some people have already come in and ordered one with everything. That’s allowed.

Pizzas are assembled in front of you “Chipotle style” and then passed through a conveyor oven to cook. The whole process end to end is no more than about 4-5 minutes in line and you’re ready to eat.
Zablong has ample vegetarian and vegan options, including Daiya vegan cheese, falafel crumbles and vegan beef crumbles. I went with a build-your-own custom pizza with red chickpea sauce (kind of like hummus + red sauce), artichoke hearts, charred broccoli, roasted red peppers, spicy chickpeas and black olives.

Most toppings go on before the oven but there are fresh finishing options at the end of the line like fresh basil, arugula, tzatziki yogurt and assorted infused olive oils.
Seating is cafeteria style with long tables and stools as well as some courtyard tables outside.

If you’re bored, grab a jar of Sharpies and decorate your black and white box. I’m not sure if that’s what they’re there for but that’s what I did.

Overall, I really liked Zablong. I feel like it’s the kind of place where you can try something different each time until you perfect your order and then never switch again. It’s not the best pizza I’ve ever eaten in my life but for what it is (a fresh, filling, quick-service lunch option for under $10), it delivers. If they execute, I see it as an easily franchise-able concept, especially in college markets.
And as one of few Uptown dining options open after last call (3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays), Zablong no doubt become a late-night drunk food destination. It’s perfect for that.
