Forum: A 120-room hotel is coming to South End and the developer wants your input

That’s why when a developer approached the Agenda, we offered to co-host a community forum for you to weigh in on the project. It’s our first experiment in connecting Charlotteans directly to developers building the city. Dialogue matters and we hope you show up.

The overview below was written in collaboration with the developers.

What’s happening?

Divine South End, LLC is planning to develop a 120-room hotel in South End at corner of Kingston and South Tryon. The project is in the early stages of planning and design and the developers are looking for South End community input to create a landmark that will be cherished by the neighborhood.

Their objective is to activate this corner and make it an inviting gateway to South End from the West Boulevard corridor.

Invitation

Come to a neighborhood information meeting to discuss the vision of the project at The Gallery South End located at 1320 South Church Street on Tuesday, January 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Everybody is welcome to attend; complimentary beer and wine will be served to the attendees – limit 2 per person for first 100 people.

Current South End hotel project overview

• Hotel will have an industrial, urban look that will complement the current and historical South End architecture.
• Five-story structure offering guests beautiful, urban, stylish, clean line guest rooms and spacious suites.
• Modern amenities including expanded fitness center, board room, suite shop, guest laundry, breakfast lounge and meeting space.
• Design elements will feature a beautiful two-story street level lobby with lots of glass, brick, wood and concrete.

• Street corner will have an inviting outdoor guest patio with water feature and a fire pit.
• Some of upper story rooms are expected to have skyline views while others may have the park view.
• Hotel will be cater to the growing business community, visitors that prefer the South End vibe over Uptown.
• The plans call for beginning the construction by third quarter of this year with anticipated completion by fall of 2017.
• Once open, they expect to employ 40-50 full-time and part-time associates including managers.
• Developer’s goal is to ‘stay local’ and engage as many local companies and professionals as possible during the construction phase of the project. The development team for this project is led by Holt Parham.
