Danny Gassaway greensky concert Cover
Things are starting to pick up. This is a rare week (although hopefully becoming less rare) in which you could see something that will knock your socks off five nights in a row (!!!). Sunday shows will be tough for bands and venues this weekend due to the late start of the NFC Championship, which the Panthers are hosting and a lot of the city will be watching. That is a good problem for the city to have, however.
Times listed are when the show is scheduled to start, not when the doors are opened. Unless listed otherwise, prices are before taxes and fees.
Agenda Picks
- 1/21/16: Moon Taxi, The Lonely Biscuits; Amos’ Southend, 8 p.m., $17-$20 (tickets). Moon Taxi is dynamic. They’re a rare band that can fit in at Coachella or Hangout and tear it up at Mountain Jam on the stage with Warren Haynes, which they did a few summers back. They can pull you in with some airy, indie sounds, then rip your face off with an eight-minute jam.
- 1/24/16: Greensky Bluegrass, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades; Neighborhood Theatre, 8 p.m., $17-$20 (tickets). Greensky Bluegrass is one of the best bands touring currently, which is why it’s a bummer they have to hit the stage Sunday night with the Panthers playing. I can’t stress enough how good these guys are. They’ve taken traditional bluegrass and flipped it on its head, adding an edge and a willingness to improvise and jam that lacks in music these days. Feel free to categorize it as “jamgrass,” maybe “Americana,” if you’d like, but it won’t do the music justice. There is no one out there like Greensky Bluegrass.
