The Book of Mormon returns to Belk Theater February 23-March 26, and put simply, we are pumped.
If you caught the show during its record-breaking run in 2014, you already know you’re in for a treat. If you’re new, well — brace yourself. This show will have you singing to yourself, laughing to yourself awkwardly and asking your friends “did they actually say that?” for days afterward.

Here are my five steps for the ideal show experience:
(1) Invite someone who will be surprised and delighted.
GNO? Yes. Significant other? Yes. Bro hangout? Yes. The show is known for its refreshingly explicit language and references — it is written by the creators of South Park, after all — so get creative with your invites. This is an awesome starter show for anyone who is typically wary of musical theater.

(2) Plan a feisty, night-out ensemble.
Touch of sparkle, still classy, right on that not-too-formal line…

(3) Stalk the stars.
We’re so lucky to have a theater here that brings in companies of award-winning Broadway hits. The talent is insane. Peek behind the curtain with some backstage Insta goofiness.

(4) Get in the musical theater groove.
Break out your favorite Broadway soundtrack, try a shower rendition of your top Frozen tune, or nerd out on Book of Mormon YouTube videos. Whether it’s your first viewing of the show or 11th, it’s the wit and the power of the music that keep us coming back to this show again and again. Get. In. The. Zone.
(5) Order up! Pre-show cocktail time.
I suggest The Viper at 5Church – Patron Silver, orange liqueur, lime juice, cucumber water, cayenne pepper. I’m obsessed with 5Church before shows because they have a special theater prix-fixe to ensure you get to your seats on time + valet parking + minimal walking in high heels + culinary delights.
And don’t forget, when you get to the theater: Pre-order your intermission beverage before the show starts.
