artpop 2016 winners
Twenty local artists have been selected to have their work displayed on billboards throughout the greater Charlotte metro next year. ArtPop, a collaboration between the Arts & Science Council and Adams Outdoor Advertising, is a creative way to promote local artists by showcasing their pieces on donated advertising space.
The first ArtPop program launched in Charlotte in January 2014 and today it can be found in seven cities in six different states. They just wrapped up the submission period for the Las Vegas competition, which is the largest ArtPop city to date. Founder Wendy Hickey, a Charlotte-based out of home (OOH)/billboard marketing pro, created the program to combine her love of the arts with her profession.

The 2016 Charlotte class of ArtPop artists were honored at a reveal ceremony last night at Evoke at Le Meridien.
Fifteen finalists were selected through a competitive submission and jurying process and the other five were selected by public vote. Winners were selected from a pool of 129 submissions and represent 11 counties in North and South Carolina.
Here’s a look at what you’ll be seeing on billboards next year.
