I caught Phish a handful of times this summer. I had to go to Atlanta and Raleigh to see them, which is frustrating. Sometimes I wish Charlotte was a little closer to the DC area or a little closer to Atlanta (well, maybe not Atlanta), so we could get some big amphitheater shows the night before or after an Atlanta or city of that size gets one.
Maybe I’m overthinking it and we just need to be cooler, but I don’t think that’s the case. You’re cool. You can help make Charlotte a big-time music destination. All of you. Maybe that starts this weekend.
Times listed are when the show is scheduled to start, not when the doors are opened. Unless listed otherwise noted, prices are before taxes and fees.
Agenda Picks
- 8/20/15: Umphrey’s McGee, J. Roddy Walston & the Business; Fillmore, 7:30pm, $35.55. Breakup rumors are flying around the interwebs surrounding Umphrey’s, so this, according to the interwebs, could be the last time you can see them in Charlotte. Regardless, the progressive jam band is super talented, and is worth checking out, especially with J. Roddy kicking things off at 7:30pm (sharp, don’t be late). If you like proggy, improvisational jams and killer lights (lighting designer Jefferson Waful is one of the best in the business), check this show out.
- 8/23/15: Melissa Etheridge, Knight Theater, 7pm, $20-$104.50. You will surely remember her from the 90’s, but Etheridge has been busy lately, having released her 12th studio album and a live DVD within the last year. A powerful personality, both on the stage and off, Etheridge at Knight Theater on Sunday night should be fun.
