Discovery Place Charlotte
Launched in 2006 in the Bay Area, Maker Faire is an annual all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors who come together for the greatest show (and tell) on earth. Today, more than 100 Mini Maker Faires are hosted around the world, and Discovery Place is bringing the first one ever to Charlotte this fall.
The Charlotte Mini Maker Faire will take place Saturday, October 10 from 10am-4pm, and the call for makers is currently open through August 24.

They’re looking for anything from robotics and 3D printing to musical performances, food creations and even art. It’s free to participate unless you plan to sell your made goods, in which case there’s a $50 commercial maker fee.

Discovery Place represented Charlotte in the national Maker Faire in Washington DC last month where Make Program coordinators showcased the museum’s most popular 3D printing activities and unveiled its new mobile Make initiative, a tricycle cart that will offer pop-up Make activities in underserved neighborhoods.
Discovery Place also offers Make activities that do not require museum admission as part of its Innovate 301 program. The next free Innovate 301 program is Solar Pyrography on July 25.
