USA USA USA: 5 spots soccer fans will be watching the Women’s World Cup on Sunday

So, where will you watch the game? While BC Place in Vancouver, Canada will be full, bars across the country will be filling up with fans to experience what I believe is truly the best thing about the beautiful game – community.

Just two or three years ago, you would probably be hard pressed to walk into any Charlotte bar or restaurant and be able to watch a soccer game without someone yelling at you for taking up one of the TVs.

Luckily, that’s no longer true.

Charlotte’s top 5 soccer bars

Courtyard Hooligans

Hooligans is the gold standard for watching soccer in the Queen City. They’ve got 25 beers on tap with a healthy mix of local brews and your standard English-style pub draughts like Carlsburg or Magner’s. Hooligans is home to most of the official supporter’s groups in town including the American Outlaws, the rabid fans for the US National Teams. Come Sunday, don’t expect a casual atmosphere where you can sit and enjoy the game on your own. Fans here are packed like sardines into the bar and gathered in the courtyard to watch the game on the outdoor TV. Everyone has their gear on, everyone’s standing and a lot of people are singing.

Belfast Mill

Belfast is literally right next door to Hooligans so you’ll be able to see the large crowd, but tends to be less packed. If the folks at Hooligans have the energy ramped up to 11, Belfast is still at a 10. You’ll still be standing at Belfast, but you’ll be able to walk up the bar and order a drink without breaking too many personal space rules. Neither Hooligans or Belfast serves food, but you can order food from Valhalla Eatery or the French Quarter Restaurant and carry out.

Big Ben’s British Restaurant and Pub

Well, if it wasn’t obvious by the name, Big Ben’s is a great place to catch a soccer match. Big Ben’s has the benefit of also having a full-service restaurant, so you can head there to order dinner and enjoy the game from the comfort of your own table. They serve some great authentic British pub fare along with some imported drinks. They just recently started showcasing more local beer too, so if that’s more your style you’ll still be taking care of. There’s also outdoor seating with TVs on the patio, so if the weather’s nice you can enjoy the game while also getting some fresh air.

The Brass Tap

This brand new bar just had their grand opening on Saturday to great success. I went with my wife and some friends the next day and really enjoy the atmosphere, the huge beer selection and some great food. They’ve got TVs everywhere and were more than happy to change the channel on one to the Portland vs. Seattle game for us. Sit outside on the covered patio, order a beer and get the Brass Tap Fries with beer cheese and bacon. Your welcome.

All American Pub

All American is another great local sports bar that is definitely friendly to the soccer lovers out there. TVs out the wazoo, great food and drink menu and a huge outdoor patio you can watch the game on. The patio isn’t covered, so if the weather’s bad you can expect the indoor seating to be busier. My friend JB says the place has been packed for all of the World Cup games, so maybe get there early if you want seats.
