Over a 120 restaurants are participating in Charlotte Restaurant Week (July 17 – July 26) where diners can experience 3 course meals at some of our city’s top restaurants for $30 or $35.

How it works

You make a reservation at one of the 120 restaurants. Prix fixe menus of 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 3 desserts. You pick one of each and depending on the restaurant, you pay either $30 or $35.

Talking Points

• Neither Bruce Moffett’s restaurants (Good Food, Barrington’s, Stagioni) nor Jim Noble’s restaurants (Rooster’s, King’s Kitchen) participate.
• The conversation with restaurants around whether they are a $35 restaurants or a $30 restaurants must have been awkward. This is the first time that they’ve introduced the $35 price point.
• CBJ reported that the last restaurant week had an economic impact of $8 million and 170,000 dinners were sold.

Analysis of two top Charlotte restaurants

Let’s take a look at the go-to orders at Carpe Diem and Sullivan’s. Each restaurant offers three choices for appetizers, entrees and desserts – this is just a look at what I would pick.

Carpe Diem – $35

• Grilled Grape Salad – Romaine, arugula, grilled grapes, Bermuda onion, toasted pistachios, white balsamic reduction, blue cheese vinaigrette (normally $9).
• Buttermilk Fried Chicken Breast – Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, sautéed spinach, shallot-black pepper gravy (normally $19).
• Salted Chocolate Cake – drizzled with a stout beer caramel sauce (normally $8.50).
• Total Savings: $1.50. Kind of makes you go, huh?

Sullivan’s Steakhouse – $35

• Kale Salad – crisp apples, dried cranberries, candied pecans, crumbled goat cheese & cider Dijon vinaigrette. (normally $9)
• Filet Mignon – 6 oz., served with garlic horseradish mashed potatoes (normally $31.50, estimated)
• New York-Style Cheesecake (normally $8)
• Total Savings: $13.50
