The city is rolling out paid parking on Camden Road later this month. Yellow bagged meters sprouting up along the sidewalk will be unveiled on Monday, June 22.

After 6/22 paid parking will be enforced Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm at a rate of $0.25 per 15 minutes with a 2-hour max.

Meters will accept coins, tokens (what the heck kind of tokens are we talking about?) and Visa/Mastercard. Or you can download the Parkmobile app and pay by phone.

The new meters will impact businesses in the immediate vicinity like Phat Burrito, Common Market and Price’s Chicken Coop, but the city says paid parking is in the best interest of Camden Road businesses: “Metered parking discourages employees and residents from parking on the street. It ensures that these prime on-street parking spaces are available for retail customers.”

South End is in favor, stating, “With all the development that has occurred in South End, and with so much more on the way, the time is the right to transition to paid on-street parking on Camden Road.”

Get all your free parking out of your system now. We expect to see this happening all over the place.
