pregnant art Charlotte
I am very much not pregnant and won’t be any time soon, but, according to Facebook, everyone I know is so I like to think I’ve learned a thing or two by way of osmosis about creating human life.
Aside from “everything,” I’m discovering some specific things I definitely didn’t know about pregnancy, like that they give you a foam bump for trying on your later term maternity clothes (smart) or that babies-in-womb are used as inspiration for making fine art (who knew?).
Here are two Charlotte artists who specialize in creating fetal-centric art (made that term up)…

Melissa Hickok is a visual artist (and yoga teacher) specializing in painting as her preferred medium. In 2005 she decided to paint an artistic interpretation of a friend’s sonogram picture to make a unique gift for her baby shower and from there, Inner Child Art Studio was born (see what I did there?).

Melissa offers four styles of sonogram painting ranging in size from 11×14 to 18×24 (prices range from $120 to $460 based on style) and 12 different color palettes (custom options available).

Pregnant Belly Painting by Weezy

File this one under huge trends I didn’t know existed. Pregnant belly painting is huge… HUGE (see what I did again?). Don’t believe me? Check Pinterest, classifier of all things trendy:
Weezy Jones, a face and body painter, offers pregnant belly painting sessions for moms-to-be. Each 2- to 3-hour session costs $175 and comes with a photo shoot and digital files of your favorite shots. She uses non-toxic, water-based body paints so safety and staining aren’t a concern, but it doesn’t last long–a few hours at best.
But hey, you’ll have the photos to put on Pinterest forever.
