This is part of our ongoing series titled Inked, the human stories behind Charlotte’s tattoos. Jeff Brokaw is co-founder of AppVested™.
Jeff’s tattoo:
When did you get it?
Started in Fall of 2013 and just finished on April 2, 2015. It was my fault it took that long, I was too busy to make an appointment for a while.
Where did you get it done, artist’s name, costs?
Cosmic Tattoos at 3927 Monroe Road in Charlotte. Emily Hefly was the artist and it took 18 hours of total time in the chair. $2500.
How’d it go down?
I have ink from other tattoo shops that I got when I was younger. I researched and looked at the portfolios of many other shops in the area and felt that Emily was a top artist at an affordable price. I told her my general idea, she drew it up and I was blown away.
What other design did you consider?
None
What’s the story behind it?
I wanted a samurai themed tattoo since it symbolizes courage, bravery, respect and self discipline. I went with a female warrior to represent my wife. I also wanted a sparrow included, as that represents freedom.
What’s next?
I want to add to some older work that I have on my right arm and have Emily turn it into a half sleeve. After that I plan to turn both arms into full sleeves.
