Why I choose Revolution over Myers Park Country Club

If you look up hidden gem in the dictionary, the definition is Revolution Park Golf Course. Mainstream Charlotte doesn’t understand how close this is to Uptown and Dilworth. They also don’t understand the value.

Let’s run a 7 point comparison analysis between Revolution and Myers Park Country Club (MPCC). Then we’ll take a quick tour of Revolution’s 9 holes.
Cost

Let’s be honest, I drool every time I stroll my baby boy past Myers Park Country Club. I want to play there. Badly. But, nobody has invited me. The fact is, even though the Agenda sold 70 pre-launch t-shirts, I can’t afford the $80,000 initiation fee and $400/month dues (rumored amounts). I’m more of a $25 (includes cart) for 9 holes at Revolution kind of guy. You can play the 9 holes again for $10 (riding) or $5 (walking). Oh, and kids play for free with a paid adult any time/any day after 3pm.
The characters
Winner: Tie
Webb Simpson played golf at MPCC a few weeks ago and carded a 62. That’s incredible. Revolution has a different clientele. Not better. Not worse. Just different. It’s old school. Whenever I hit on the range, I always have some old dude come up and try to give me pointers, shake my hand and tell me about his golf group.
Driving range & practice facility

Winner: Revolution
If you’re a real golfer, you hate mats. Hitting off of a mat is like kissing a girl while playing spin the bottle, it doesn’t count. MPCC has mats. Revolution doesn’t. MPCC has a relatively tight range. Revolution has a range where you can crush drivers until your hands bleed. This driving range attracts some ringers. I can tell there are some former college players that hit on this range. I’ve also seen the Queens golf team practice here. Seriously, the Revolution practice facility is legit.

Clubhouse
Winner: MPCC
The web copywriter for Revolution’s site took some liberties when describing the pro shop as “ultra modern.” I’d hate to see where this copywriter hangs out. Let’s be honest, Revolution is bare bones and MPCC’s clubhouse (including their new addition) is incredible. Let me put it this way – nobody has wedding receptions at Revolution.
Dress code & tee times
/2024/01/06/1704523680440.jpg)
Winner: Tie
If there’s a dress code at Revolution, it’s lightly enforced. And by lightly enforced, I mean never enforced. I’ve been there after work in a t-shirt and khakis to hit on the range. I’m not a snob, but while no dress code my seem cool, it’s weird to look at the group in front of you and see somebody wearing jeans. Rumor has it that tee times can be hard to get at MPCC. I recommend teeing off at Revolution before 9:00 am on Saturday – you can fly.
Community
Winner: Revolution
MPCC’s membership gives a ton of time, treasure and talent to the Charlotte community. They also have some incredible fundraising events at the club. But, come on, nothing is cooler than hosting The First Tee of Charlotte. Kids win.

Yes, I must admit that I’ve looked for holes in the Myers Park Country Club fence near the high school just in case I needed to sneak on to play a hole or two. It’s that nice. Let’s also keep in mind that Revolution is only 9 holes, but it’s still better than you think.

*If you’re a MPCC member, feel free to invite me to your course and show me why I’m wrong, but I won’t be warming up on the mats.
