Colorado's Stem Ciders is jumping into the fast-growing sober-curious market with Stem Zero, a new line of non-alcoholic craft ciders that debuted this week.
Why it matters: As more Americans cut back on booze and nonalcoholic drink sales soar, the launch positions Stem to capture a slice of one of the beverage industry's fastest-expanding categories.
The latest: Stem Zero skips the dealcoholization step — it's crafted alcohol-free and made with real fruit and a splash of apple cider vinegar.
- Stem Ciders, owned by Lafayette-based Wilding Brands, debuted two flavors — blueberry lime and apricot haze — with a pear variety coming in January, according to a release.
Behind the scenes: Wilding Brands' Patrick Combs said conversations about a non-alcoholic cider began years ago, but formal development kicked off 18 months ago.
- Stem Ciders tested Stem Zero at its Acreage location in Lafayette, where it quickly sold out. "We knew we had a winner," Combs said.
Zoom out: Just over half (54%) of U.S. adults reported drinking alcohol in 2025 — down from at least 60% between 1997 and 2023.
- Drinking among young adults had been trending downward, and Gallup notes that the trend has accelerated. Since 2023, the share of Americans under 35 who drink has fallen nine points, from 59% to 50%, per Gallup.

What they're saying: "Stem Zero is a perfect choice for holiday gatherings, Dry January, and anytime you want a delicious, refreshing craft beverage without the alcohol," Combs said.
What we're watching: Stem Zero is available in four-packs at independent retail locations and online at stemciders.com.
- A variety six pack will debut in January once the pear flavor is released.
- Stem Ciders also has two taprooms in Lafayette, its Acreage location at 1380 Horizon Ave. and at Ghost Box Pizza, 103 South Public Road.
