"Back to friends" by Sombr was the top song this summer for Spotify users in Boulder, but the streaming service said this year lacked a defining tune.
The big picture: According to Spotify data, summer 2025 was the least danceable and lowest-energy summer for music, based on the tempos, rhythm stability, beat strength, and overall regularity of its top tracks.
How it works: Spotify's editors handpicked a list of tracks based on streaming data, cultural impact and editorial insight that "collectively defined the season across the Northern Hemisphere."
The audio streaming service shared market-level data exclusively with Axios.
Mitchell's thought bubble: I have not listened to any of these songs. I'm not trying to sound like a hipster; I'm actually just really behind on pop music.

But if I had a personal song of the summer, it was Ella Langley's "Weren't For the Wind." (Please ignore the fact that it came out last October).
