The Birdie Factory, Boulder's first indoor golf bar, is set to welcome golfers of all levels starting Friday.
Why it matters: Indoor golfing and putting spots have been all the rage in Denver, but this will be the city's first such facility.
- "Nothing like this exists in Boulder," owner Andrew "Fergie" Ferguson said.
What to expect: The facility features five golfing bays and beer and cocktails on tap.
- The simulators include more than 1,000 famous courses like Augusta National, so you and your friends can host your own Masters.
- Mix things up with some "fantasy" courses featuring "Star Wars" and "Candyland" themes. You can even play the Shire from "Lord of the Rings" if you want to hit a "fool of a hook."
- Not feeling golf? Certain bays also offer other sports like soccer. There are also dart boards.
- No clubs, no problem: Sets are available for rent.
The vibe: Ferguson said The Birdie Factory will cater to three main groups.
The weekend warriors: One of the bays features 4K cameras, pressure plates and AI that shares coaching tips for seasoned golfers.
- It also offers a spot for those looking to stay sharp in the winter or get some swings in on a rainy day.
The newbies: The other simulators offer "cheat codes" (like distance enhancement or eliminating right and left misses) for newer golfers hoping to break into the game or hang with their more experienced friends.
- "Golf is really hard when you first get into it," Ferguson said. "It's really intimidating. ... This is super easy."
The socialites: Ferguson said ultimately he wanted The Birdie Factory to be a place that recreates the camaraderie of golf. He hopes to offer golf camps for kids and indoor leagues for adults.
- "That's one of the things we've lacked since COVID, especially," Ferguson said. "Golf is really a friendship-based game."
