Three of the top 20most expensive ZIP codes in the country are in Colorado's ski country, according to a RealtyHop study.
Why it matters: It's yet another sign local mountain communities have become ultra-exclusive enclaves, where soaring housing costs, driven by wealthy buyers and limited inventory, have transformed once-rugged retreats into some of the nation's priciest places to live.
By the numbers: Aspen landed at No. 14 with a median home price of nearly $3.7 million, per RealtyHop's analysis.
Snowmass and Telluride followed closely at No. 15 and No. 17, with medians of about $3.5 million and $3.4 million, respectively.
Follow the money: They're not the only Colorado ski towns with sky-high prices.
Breckenridge and Steamboat were named among the most expensive small towns in America with home prices rivaling some of the country's largest cities, a LendingTree analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data found.
The fine print: RealtyHop's analysis reviewed more than 3 million property listings from January to mid-October 2023 across all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
The big picture: The country's most expensive places have one thing in common, according to RealtyHop's study. That's access to water — whether salty, fresh or frozen.
